Description

Large correspondence of
41 letters
, dated
1866 through 1899
, all from
Wisconsin
, and most from
Coloma
, a small village in
Waushara County
, which had a population of just 74 in 1880 (today it has less than 500), with a few from
Hancock
(another small village in Waushara Co.), and a couple from
Fort Howard
(no longer exists, it was annexed to Green Bay in 1895).
All are
to
Mrs. Frances ("Frank") Morgan Boyd, (1846-1919) of Andover, Allegany Co., NY, wife of Thomas N. Boyd (1844-1933), a Civil War veteran who served in the 141st NY Infantry, and participated in Sherman's March to the Sea.
The letters are mainly from Frances' sister, Carrie Morgan, with a couple from her Mother, and a few from her brother, Henry Morgan.
All are multi-page letters, and many include their original envelopes. There are also a few envelopes without letters, that could be matched up with some of the letters that aren't in envelopes.
Lots of interesting reading in this small town Wisconsin family correspondence.
The letters are all Fine-Very Fine. Many of the covers are opened roughly at right, affecting the stamps, or have the stamps missing entirely.
