Ira French Prouty writing home to Willard ProutyOctober 11 1836.
Ira Prouty, 1812-82, would become an M.D.
Class of 1837 Dartmouth.
Begins that he has heard that "Typhus fever is
somewhat prevalent in Langdon. I have feared
much that some of you might have the same.
You wrote me that Sterling R. was very low
and probably would not live long. I have flattered
myself that I might again see him, but perhaps
ere this, he may have bid adieu to all earthly scenes
and closed his eyes in death."
goes on to say he has not felt well lately but has
attended lectures. His medical professor Delumeter
told him it was a case of nerves that will not go
away until he is over his studies
Lectures will close in five weeks and he is looking
forward to come home for Thanksgiving.
he has asked his uncle to send him . wishes
for four or five now to pay for his room, etc....
