Description
Joseph Heinrichs was one of the finest cookware makers in the United States from 1897 to the mid 1930s. He sold highest quality cookware through well recognized retailers, such as Tiffany, and directly to highly regarded hotels and restaurants, and sometimes stamping the hotel or restaurant on the piece. This is a fine oval covered braziere/casserole that is polished, has new tinning, and can be used. It is in super shape, with the base having no dents, dings, etc., while the cover, which fits fine, has several shallow dents along the rim. It is 8 3/8” length, without brass handles; 11” length with brass handles; 5 7/8” wide; 4 3/8” high; and weighs 3 5/8 pounds. It is signed on the bottom: JOS. HEINRICHS PARIS + NEW YORK BURLEY & COMPANY CHICAGO.According to an article, Burley & Company was founded in 1884, and “ordered from some of the best manufacturers of the day…” Business address at one time was on Wabash and another time on State Street. This is a first rate piece.
