PLEASE NOTE- After taking this ring to the jeweler to determine the exact size, due to the shape of the ring it was not possible to get it on the ring sizer properly. The jeweler made an educated guess that the size is at least 6 1/2, but a precise determination is not feasible, meaning it could well be somewhere around a size 7. So, if you like this ring and it is something you might want to keep for your permanent collection, please keep in mind that it may be necessary to have the ring professionally resized, and you should be prepared to get this done. I wish I could state more precisely the proper size, but that turns out not to be possible with this one. This ring is by all accounts not a common piece, especially in this condition. There are two pictures which show the letter U with an arrow to either side pointing inward toward the letter. Research online suggests this is most likely the mark of the Uncas maker. The exact year of course I cannot be sure of, and all I can offer is an educated guess. This particular ring is in unusually fine condition, with no significant damage to any of the
marcasite
s and all of them present with none rattling in the settings. All together as closeIy as I could count there were 84
marcasite
s, which is a lot by any standard. I also cannot find a hint of rust on any of them. The green stone in the middle could be glass, chalcedony or chrysoprase, but I cannot say for sure. To be on the safe side we will assume it is glass, most likely the kind that is often called jade glass. The two curved cuts do not seem to have quite the same edge as cut stone, so I am leaning toward glass on that.
The style of this ring speaks for itself. In this case the pictures do most of the talking and there is no need in adding a lot of commentary. I feel this ring is one of the best examples of Art Deco listed on eBay likely to show up very often.
ONCE AGAIN, in trying to determine the size it was found that this ring, due to the shape, would not fit snugly on the mandrel. The jeweler seemed confident that the size was a minimum 6 1/2, so that is as close as I can come with this. Please read note at beginning of
