    Notable Features:
This ring was handmade during the Art Nouveau era. Composed of 14k rose gold, the ring features a beautiful, sizeable Siberian amethyst stone in a prong setting. The use of the single Siberian amethyst stone, as well as the elegant setting, in this piece is an excellent example of the styles of jewelry popular during this time period. This era saw jewelers turning away from the more elaborate and ornate jewelry designs of the preceding Victorian era and toward sophisticated jewelry inspired by simpler designs and the natural world.
The unique Siberian amethyst stone that adorns the ring showcases a beautiful deep purple hue, prized in this variety of amethyst. The stone is semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through its body, illuminating its dramatic hue. A round faceted cut allows for brilliant sparkle as light reflects from the stone's many facets. The Siberian amethyst rests securely in a rose gold prong crown setting, the warm tone of the gold a lovely contrast to the deep purple hue of the stone. Nestled securely in the setting, the stone rises over one-third of an inch off the finger when worn, contributing to the ring's grand appearance.
The ring is completed with a 14k rose gold band, smooth and polished for comfortable wear. A classic example of jewelry from the Art Nouveau era, this ring would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
    Damage:
Age appropriate wear. The ring could use a gentle cleaning with a gentle soap and water.

    The History
The Art Nouveau era, 1890-1910, was also called "La Belle Epoque" in French, which translates to "A Beautiful Time.”  This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period.  This era focused on women and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a common material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over the production of many products, including some jewelry.
Siberian Amethysts are known for their vivid deep collector grade purple hue with blue and red shades throughout. This type of dark purple amethyst is found in the Ural Mountains, with deposits outside the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia. Amethyst has been mined in this area since the 18th century or possibly earlier. Today the term “Siberian” no longer refers to origin of the actual stone, but rather the intense purple hue which is sought after for jewelry making. Siberian amethyst is now the common or popular name for the vibrant dark purple of the stone, although most of the valuable amethyst are found in South America.
