Notable Features:
The ring was handmade during the Art Deco era. Composed of 18k yellow gold, this ring features many sparkling ruby and white quartz stones with four stacking bands in the engagement style. This ring is an excellent example of the jewelry that was popular during the Art Deco era, which saw wealthy socialites and aristocrats donning bold, eye-catching jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and other formal evening events. Sparkling, rare stones, like the ruby and quartz in this ring, were especially fashionable and a sure way to grab the attention of fellow party attendees. This ring is in the style of an engagement or wedding ring, often given to a loved one as a symbol and promise of love and marriage, though the ring would also be perfectly suitable for a variety of occasions.
The ring contains two bands adorned with a total of sixteen ruby
stones, each of which features a unique, vivid pink hue
. The rubies' round faceted cuts allows light to reflect from its facets, resulting in brilliant sparkle. The rubies rests within yellow gold prong settings, the vibrant tone of yellow gold a lovely contrast to the bright pink rubies. These settings also elevate the rubies off the finger, making them more prominent in classic Gatsby style.
The ring's remaining two bands showcase sixteen white quartz stones. These quartz contribute to the ring's brilliant sparkle with round faceted cuts. The stones' colorless, translucent hues also contrast strikingly with the yellow gold prong settings in which they rest. All of the quartz and rubies stones rest in a row on the face of each band, creating beautiful alternating colors and gorgeous sparkle.
The 18k yellow gold shoulders of the ring contain geometric diamond-shaped motifs. The smooth and polished stacking bands are held together at the bottom, ensuring they remain stacked when worn. A classic example of
Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era, this engagement ring would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection, or for any bride who is searching for "something old." Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
Damage:
Age appropriate wear. One of the quartz stones contains a chip from its side; however, the stone remains secure, and this does not affect wear. There is minor facet wear to the faces of several ruby stones, which is not immediately noticeable and does not affect wear. There is also patina on some areas of the yellow gold, which also does not affect wear.

The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Rubies are one of the four precious gemstones and are prized for their pink to blood red colors. The most valued hue of ruby is called blood-red, or pigeon blood, for the bright, rich hue it exhibits. The color of a ruby comes from the element chromium. Rubies have adorned royal and religious jewelry for centuries and were especially esteemed in Asian countries like China and India, where they were thought to bring good fortune. Rubies are graded by color, clarity, cut, and carat. Rubies are often also evaluated based on their geographic origin.
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral found in the Earth’s crust. The name is derived from the German term “quarz” and originated from the Slavic word meaning hard. It is known to be one of the hardest minerals on earth which is why it has been historically utilized in making jewelry. Quartz gemstones are hard, durable and extremely attractive. The stones can come in a variety of colors and hues. Quartz is an inexpensive mineral, while some varieties can be extremely rare, most varieties and sizes are commonly available. It has been used for centuries in the creation of jewelry and other ornamental objects. Quartz is an extremely versatile material that can be cut and carved into many shapes and sizes which has made it an asset historical and antique jewelry. Today, quartz is one of the most important gemstones in the colored stone trade and in jewelry making.
