    Notable Features:
This ring was handmade during the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the ring features a beautiful Baltic amber stone and a geometric design. The use of such a large, colorful ston
e in this piece is a classic example of the styles of jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw wealthy socialites and aristocrats donning bold, eye-catching jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and formal events. Jewelry worn during this time period was created to make a statement and draw attention to the wearer, and this ring is no exception.
Markings on the ring indicate it was created by Shiman Manufacturing Co. Inc., a United States jewelry company founded in 1906.
The Baltic amber stone showcases a striking deep orange hue.
The stone's semi-translucency allows light to filter through its body and illuminate its internal, natural darker orange inclusions. This Baltic amber stone rests securely in a multi-prong yellow gold basket setting, the vibrant tone of the yellow gold contrasting beautifully with the deep orange of the stone. This setting also suspends the stone, raising it nearly one-half of an inch off the finger when worn. The 14k yellow gold prongs rest atop a series of branch-like, stacked linear motifs, adding geometric style to the piece. With its unique design, this ring is impossible to miss and would have been the perfect accessory for a socialite attending a Gatsby-style party.
Completing the ring is a smooth, polished 14k yellow gold band for a comfortable fit when worn. The generous amount of 14k yellow gold in the piece gives it an impressive item weight value of 5. A classic example of Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era, this ring would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
    Damage:
Age appropriate wear. There are several minor chips from the sides and face of the stone, as well as wear to the face of the stone; however, this does not affect wear, and the stone remains secure.
The stone is slightly loose in its setting, an intentional design choice on the part of the jeweler to prevent damage while setting the stone; however, the stone is completely secure and this does not affect wear.

    The History
    T
he Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Baltic amber is found only in northern Europe and accounts for much of the known amber in the world. Amber is an organic fossilized resin that is formed when sap exudes from pine trees and hardens over many years. It typically contains an internal matrix of materials, including water or gas bubbles, organic plant matter, or even insects. Baltic amber specifically comes from sap that is 35 to 50 million years old and came from trees that are now covered by the Baltic Sea. It has been used since ancient times to create jewelry and decorative ornaments, and has long been used in folk medicine for its healing properties.
