Notable Features:
This ring was handmade during the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the ring features a beautiful carved red jadeite jade stone. The use of such a huge, colorful stone in this piece is a classic example of the styles of jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw wealthy socialites and aristocrats donning bold, eye-catching jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and formal events. Jewelry worn during this time period was created to make a statement and draw attention to the wearer, and this ring is no exception.
The jadeite jade stone is red in hue and semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through its body and illuminate its internal mottling of lighter and darker red shades. The stone has a carving of a dragon-like motif with swirls all around. The stone rests securely in a yellow gold bezel setting. The vibrancy of the gold is a lovely contrast to the red hues of the jadeite jade. Around the stone are elegant rope twist designs and geometric line designs, adding beautiful detailing. This setting also raises the stone 0.34 inch's off the finger, contributing to its grand appearance.
The ring is complete with a smooth, polished 14k yellow gold band for a comfortable fit when worn. A classic example of Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era, this ring would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

The History
T
he Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
It was in China—where the gem-carving tradition was already thousands of years old—that jadeite reached its peak as an important artistic medium. The first jadeite reached China in the late 1700s, and late eighteenth and early nineteenth century carvers created masterpieces that are still unsurpassed in concept, design, and technical execution. Jadeite is prized for its hardness and density and occurs in green, white, orange, yellow, lavender, red, gray, and black hues. The highest grade of jadeite is translucent and has an even color distribution.
