Notable Features:
This ring was handmade during the Retro period in the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the ring features beautiful Nephrite jade stones adorning a floral band. T
he use of such colorful, valuable stones in this ring is an
excellent example
of the
Hollywood Regency style, which rose to popularity during the Retro period. Reflecting their large, memorable personalities, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring valuable, attention-grabbing stones. This ring was made in the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Tiffany designs that were influencing the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn.
The six Nephrite jade stones showcase lovely, untreated deep green hues. A semi-translucent quality allows light to filter through the domed, oval cabochon stones and illuminate their color. The Nephrite jade rest securely in 14k yellow gold fancy, scalloped prong settings, the vibrancy of the gold a lovely contrast to the polished, green Nephrite jade. Surrounding each stone is a scalloped, openwork floral design which connects to each end of the band.
The edges of the band contain a twisted design, adding lovely detail to the piece. The inside of the 14k yellow gold band is smooth and polished for a comfortable fit when worn. The generous amount of 14k yellow gold in the piece gives it an impressive item weight value of 0. A
classic example of Hollywood Regency jewelry from the Retro period, this ring would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
Damage:
Age appropriate wear. Several of the jade stones are a bit matte, and these can be re-polished by your local jeweler, if desired.

The History
Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. These designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. Materials used commonly in Retro jewelry are gold, gold alloys, and silver as the wartime put a restriction on the use of platinum. Designs can be masculine, geometric and modern, or softer, more feminine and floral.
The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
It was in China—where the gem-carving tradition was already thousands of years old—that jadeite reached its peak as an important artistic medium. The first jadeite reached China in the late 1700s, and late eighteenth and early nineteenth century carvers created masterpieces that are still unsurpassed in concept, design, and technical execution. Jadeite is prized for its hardness and density and occurs in green, white, orange, yellow, lavender, red, gray, and black hues. The highest grade of jadeite is translucent and has an even color distribution.
