Antique Shaw Walker Dovetail Wooden Box

An antique Shaw Walker dovetail wooden box.  The quality of workmanship on this hefty solid wood antique box by Shaw Walker catches your eye immediately.
Take a look at the dovetail joints on the side of the box then let your eye wander to the front of the box and look at the aged solid brass pull handle with a brass plate above it.  Reminiscent of the antique library boxes that used the same one-piece brass hardware in their cabinets, add your own custom label to proudly claim this piece as your own.  The top of the box has a slightly faded makers mark - Shaw Walker.
Pull the handle forward with the drawer sliding out revealing a brass metal track with a notched wooden back held in place with a lever and spring that allows the card file to slide effortlessly after so many years. The bottom of the box was left in its natural finish showing off the contrast in color of the wood finishes where the dovetail meets.
On one side of the box is an oval painted label which states " Do Not Deface"  "City Inventory Number 4-25-BA-40" "Property of the City of St. Louis, MO". this antique wooden dovetail box once held important information for the city of St. Louis.
We can envision this box to be repurposed and will then hold someone's treasured items and the beauty of the box will become complete.
This piece measures approx. x 8-1/8" wide x 6-1/2" high x 15" deep.
