Description
Large antique 18th Century French copper lidded Braisiere (c.1790) for cooking meats in liquid, or simmering stews. Very large, and useful as a true kitchen workhorse.Used in hearth cooking in the 18th & 19 th centuries, hot coals would have been placed in the recessed rim to surround the pot, which rested on a stand.
A stunning example of the craftsmanship of French artisans. This piece is from Normandy, well known for their history of making high quality, professional grade copper cookware for centuries. A fabulous addition to any chef’s kitchen.
This piece had been professionally re tinned by an artisan in Normandy, and likely not for the first time. Copper of this quality is typically kept in a family for generations, being faithfully used and re tinned as needed over many years.
