Description
This is an Antique Hand Wrought Copper and Brass Tea Kettle. At the time of the original purchase, this was one of a number of antiques purchased from a man who was downsizing, and selling items from his own estate, including items he had inherited from his Dad. He told us that his Dad served in WWII and during his service was in England, Haiti, and other locations. This kettle was purchased in England during the 1940s and brought home to the US. He did not have any specific information from his Dad about when this piece was made.
The kettle is an estate item. The sellers were both downsizing and selling items from their own estate and also selling items inherited from a parent's estate that had been put away for many years.
The tea kettle is a wonderful, very old piece. We were not able to get any specific provenance or age information. It would be a great piece for display including in a kitchen, fireplace hutch, or display case.
The kettle is obvious hand wrought. It is made from very heavy gauge copper, with a heavy solid brass handle that provides a nice contrast and enhances the appeal of the tea kettle. The kettle weighs just over three pounds, and it has a nice, heavy, solid feel. The height to the top of the handle is about 11 1/2". The body of the kettle is 5 1/2" high exclusive of the lid. The kettle has a maximum overall diameter of about 7 1/2" at the level where it starts to narrow toward the top. The bottom diameter is 6 1/2" and the top inner diameter is 4 3/4". The overall maximum length from the back rim to the tip of the spout is about 11 1/2".
We also have a variety of antique / vintage / primitive items listed including items in brass and copper.
Condition:
The tea kettle has a number of condition issues including a repair to the spout, commensurate with age and use over a great number of years. The heavy body is solid with no holes. The following condition issues were noted:
the spout has a significant repair as you can see of the welding work done around the circumference of the spout.
there are quite a number small dents as seen. It appears to me that many or most of these may be artifacts of the original creation of the tea pot but I do not know for sure.
The tea kettle is offered as found / as seen / as described. The photos, taken from all sides, show the condition quite well. Review then and make your own assessment of the condition as well.
