ANTIQUE 18K GOLD MOURNING RING c1922 G WILLIAMSON ELLISLAND FARM ROBERT BURNS
A fine quality antique solid 18 carat gold signet ring; finely made, with an agate seal engraved with the monogram 'GWE' in reverse, hinging open to reveal a concealed glass locket holding an old hair memento. Engraved to the back 'In Memory Of George Williamson of Ellisland 29th Sep 1922'.
Ellisland Farm is a Scottish museum in the farm Robert Burns built, lived in and farmed from 1788 until 1791. Burns experienced his most creative and fruitful years at Ellisland, and described it as “the poet’s choice”. In 1922 the farm was purchased by Mr George Williamson, a wealthy Edinburgh Wool Merchant who was an admirer of Burns. On his death the house, farm and its collection were bequeathed to the nation for the sole purpose of 'The contemplation of the life and works of Robert Burns'.

: All original and very, very good. Slightest signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Tiny nick to seal edge.

: English hallmark for Edinburgh 1922.

: Seal 12 x 10 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
