Up for sale is this great original antique 1876 handwritten letter written by an attendee of a séance in New York to one Mr. Tompkins.  In the letter the writer communicates to Mr. Tompkins a message which the "spirits" commanded her to relay.
Here is my translation of the letter:
Jamaica, Queens, NY
13 Jan. 1876.
Mr. Tompkins,
Dear sir:
Recently we attended a Seance and the incontrovertible proofs of the physical manifestations from the Spirit Land converted us firmly to the theories of Spiritualism.  Our faith has been strengthened by spiritual demonstrations and communications, made to ourselves.  Among other serious duties charged upon us at the last revelation of the spirits, we were commanded to address a letter to you.  We are compelled to inform you that the short, stout lady, who was revealed to us while in our mediumistic state, is a dweller in the town of Peekskill, on the Hudson; and that you met her there, while recently tarrying in that place; and that she is destined to figure largely in your walk through life.  You must conquer all your heart-hidden but cherished affection for your cousin Katy, as nothing but sorrow can came of any deep attachment between you two.  So saith the spirits.
If there is ought else that you would known concerning your future destiny, we may learn it for you of the Spirits.  Any communication addressed to
"Faith, Hope, and Charity."

The letter is 3 pages long and is written on one folded sheet of paper.  When folded once, the paper measures approximately 5 3/4 inches by 5 1/4 inches.  It is in good condition with some minor chipping to the outer margin of the last page.  For the most part, the writing is neat and legible.  The letter comes in its original stamped envelope which measures approximately 3 1/4 inches by 5 7/8 inches.  All in all a really wonderful and rare piece of Spiritualism history.  Please look at all of the scans to further note the condition.
